Hello PKN

In PKN we started a new program called "Reading Buddies" with the second graders. They really loved it. The grade two children came in to read books the PK children. The children were really focused and interested in the stories read by grade two students. This will happen every week. It is very important for acquiring English vocabulary. Here are some pictures:

The students are now able to create and read their own patterns. They are working are hard to understand the meaning of a pattern. They know that it is something that repeats over and over again. Well done PKN. Here are the pictures:

Our letter of the week is Ll for Lucy Lamp Light. The children are learning to name, sound out and trace the letter Ll using different materials. Well done PKN

This week the students are busy making their toys. PKN students chose the toy they wanted to  design. We prepared the materials together. Our students put their inventor hats and started working hard on their projects. Here are some pictures:

In math we are learning to create and read a pattern. We introduced color patterns, number patterns, shape patterns..... Here are the pictures:

This week's letter is K for kicking king. The students are naming the letter, saying its sound and singing the kicking king song. We are using different materials to trace Kk either with play dough, felted pens or with oil pastel... The students made K is fort king as a craft project. Enjoy the pictures:

This week our students are working on patterns during math session. They are learning: What is a pattern? How can we create a pattern??? The students are creating patterns of two and three colors. They are learning patterns through books, songs, manipulatives... The students know that patterns are everywhere. They can find patterns in their clothes: stripes, in the food they eat: beans, potatoes, beans, potatoes...Here are some pictures:

In our inquiry unit '' how things work?", the students started inventing their own toys. Yesterday, Alimkhan, Redha, Ebrahim and Maya B put on thier inventor hats and made their own toys: Guitars and Airplanes. They loved the project and they had lots of fun making the toys. When all PK finish inventing the toys we will have a toy exhibition. More details will come later about the exhibition. We will keep you posted. Here are some pictures:

Hello PKN

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all back to school at the start of the New Year 2015! I sincerely hope it will bring joy and happiness to one and all. Your children, my students, returned to us full of energy and shared lots of interesting stories about the holidays.

This week we are reviewing letters A through I. The students are singing the alphabet songs, tracing the letters, coloring letter worksheets.. Here are some pictures:

 In math the children are learning to count up to 10. They making sets of 10 objects, also PKN students are matching the number with the right quantity. This week we introduced patterns. We started with patterns of colors. They did a great job!!! Here are the photos:

In music the children are learning walking around the circle, The toy song and the alphabet song using musical instruments. The students are so excited in music. They loved the songs as well as the instruments.
