Learning through fun!!!

Hello PKN parents

We are reviewing numbers from 1 to 10 using different materials such as manipulatives, counting mats, white boards, play dough mats and also using our fingers when we count. During the break you can practice with your child counting. You can ask your child how many fingers you have? How many are we in the family, can you count the toys you have in your room..... Here are some pictures of our math session:

In PKN we are also reviewing letters. The children are naming the letter and saying its sound. They are forming the letters using pencils, oil pastel crayons, play dough... We are singing the letterland alphabet songs. PKN enjoy our literacy time and here are some photos:

In science the children are working on how things work unit. We are focusing on toys. We talked about wheels and batteries. They are learning that batteries give power to the toys... They also learnt about floating and sinking boats. Here are some pictures:

That'a all for now. See you all on Friday at 10.30 for our winter celebration in the classroom. I wish you all happy vacation and safe travels. Happy New Year 2015!!!!

PKN Weekly News

Hello PKN

This week in PKN class we are reviewing all the letters we have seen so far. The children are learning to name, say the sound and trace the alphabet letters. I noticed good growth in recognizing and naming the letters. The children also came up different words beginning with letters taught in the classroom. Here are some pictures of our literacy activities:

In math we are learning to count aloud to ten, making sets of ten objects and writing number ten on their white boards. In PKN also we are learning about temperature. The children are distinguishing between hot and cold. We have been talking about hot weather and cold weather, hot water and cold water... What do we need to wear when the weather is hot or cold??.... The kids are enjoying the different activities and here are the photos:

In science we are still working on "How things work" unit. The kids are learning about wheels.  We are trying to answer this question: Why do cars need wheels?? the children are learning that we need wheels for the cars or trucks to move. The kids drew lots of wheels and we put them in our inquiry book. Here are the pictures:

I would like to invite you all to the winter celebration on Friday December 12th from 10.30 to 11.30 in our classroom. The kids will be doing some arts and crafts activities with you. There will be also snacks to share. Try to be there and have fun with your child at the last day before the winter break.

Thank you
